Piptatherum caerulescens, or blue needlegrass, is an ornamental grass in the Poaceae family. It requires full sun and low water, thriving in USDA zones 4–9. This species grows to a height of 0.6–1.2 meters and blooms from July to September. It prefers sandy, loamy, or clay soils. Blue needlegrass is evergreen but is not fragrant, does not attract pollinators, and is not toxic.
