Mammillaria purpurea, commonly known as Pincushion cactus, is an ornamental perennial cactus that thrives in full sun and requires low watering. It grows to a height of 0.05–0.1 meters and is suitable for USDA zones 9–12. The cactus blooms in pink, red, and white from June to September and prefers sandy, loamy, or chalky soil. It is evergreen but does not attract pollinators and is not toxic.
